Caramelized Onions

Caramelized onions are such a great addition to so, so many dishes. They add so much depth and flavor and are actually quite easy to make, but just simply require time and patience. If you look at the video above, all you need to do is take olive oil and drizzle it in a non-stick pan over medium-low heat. Slice the onions length-wise (in this video, I used two), and sauté them for about 45 minutes until they reach a nice, caramel brown. The sugars start to extract halfway through - so this is what you have to give the onions time to do!

Here are some ideas for using caramelized onions:

  • As a pizza topping

  • In an omelette

  • As part of a pasta dish

  • Mixed into Greek Yogurt as a sauce

  • In a sandwich

  • On top of kebabs
